Kwila

Kwila is nestled into the sunny elbow of Foster Street. Owners Vic Lynch and Melissa Garcia have roots in Colombia and Papua New Guinea, which is reflected in the traditional cushions and trinkets that adorn the cafe. The tables and chairs are made from the wood of kwila, the indigenous Papua New Guinean tree the cafe is named after. Exposed bricks and an impressive mural by acclaimed tattoo artist Mark Nara complete the look.

Lynch roasts all of Kwila’s coffee in-house with a focus on fairtrade and organic products and includes an ever-evolving supply of single origin offerings.

Space is scarce, so the menu changes from day to day to reflect seasonality. Everything is vegetarian and the focus here is on wholefoods. Breakfast pastries come from Bread & Butter Project and raw cakes and treats from Funky Pies. The Kwila Plate – seasonal salad served with egg, avocado, and house-made dressing – is a lunchtime favourite.
