Short of a pay raise or an early mark, not much can save a mediocre workday. Chur Express, which opened in the Wintergarden food court in Sydney’s CBD last week, can fix that. The menu is similar to that at Chur Burger, its popular big brother in Surry Hills, but it’s set to double speed.
Chur Express is takeaway only, and the turnover during the lunch rush is already high. Though its pace may be more frenetic, no corners are cut to make the pickle and mustard mayo combo with beef, cheese and tomato jam, not to mention the chicken, lamb, pork and fish options. For vegetarians, the Middle Eastern-style burger, with a spiced-chickpea fritter, grated beetroot and honey labne, will deliver.
Not all the usual Chur sides are present, but devotees will be happy to know the chili-salt fries and coleslaw made the cut. As did the much-loved Heilala vanilla milkshakes. What’s new is a breakfast menu to match its earlier opening hours, including a vegetarian option with roasted field mushrooms, free-range egg and cheese. If the bacon and egg burger with bacon, free-range egg, tomato jam and barbecue sauce doesn’t fix a mid-week hangover, we don’t know what will.
