Kurumac x Ramen Shimizu
Japanese-accented Marrickville cafe Kurumac is teaming up with Ryo Shimizu, from Ramen Shimizu in Crows Nest, for a noodle-soup extravaganza. Shimizu has become known for his tonkotsu ramen – a recipe the self-taught ramen chef cracked after plenty of trial and error. He'll be doling out bowls of the stuff at Kurumac and, as he's considering putting down his chopsticks in the near future, this might be the last time you get to sample his rich, collagen-laden broth.
Kurumac chef Jun Okamatsu will also be serving his own ramen, with a lighter broth to act as a foil to Shimizu's heavy version. A selection of donburi (rice bowls) and side dishes will be available, but Kurumac's regular menu will be set aside for the day. (You'll still be able to order from Kurumac's regular selection of coffee, soda and milkshakes.)
The ramen will be served from 10.30am to 2.30pm, then from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. There will be a 45-minute limit on each table and social distancing will be in place. Walk-ins only.
