The Australian Ballet Presents The Sleeping Beauty
In today’s day and age we find ourselves losing sleep over deadlines, long days at work, and the transition from summer to winter. In our busy lives we long for the free-spirited imagination we once exercised as children, only to be met by the realisation that those days are over ... but that’s not entirely the case.
David McAllister’s mystical masterpiece The Sleeping Beauty returns to Sydney's Capitol Theatre on Saturday November 11. Transport yourself to a world ruled by romance, wonder, beauty, and imperial grandeur as the stage glows in baroque golds and creams. Sit back as the stage fills with princes, fairies, woodland nymphs and casts a spell of enchantment all the way to true love’s kiss.
Tchaikovsky’s celebrated score will be accompanied by breathtaking set designs from Gabriela Tylesova. The handmade costumes are a staple in the piece, with a vivid display of colours occupying the stage from scene to scene. This new production stays true to the magic of the original, even if it has been 126 years since it was first performed.
McAllister has been working with The Australian Ballet since 1989 after an illustrious career as a performer himself. He danced principal roles in such productions such as Romeo and Juliet, La Sylphide, Manon, Don Quixote and The Sleeping Beauty.
The curtains officially open on Saturday November 11, with performances running until Saturday November 25.
