Smash Brothers, the team responsible for shattering Sydney’s conventional ideas of stress relief, are popping up at Rhodes Waterside this October.
For two weeks, Smash Box, a shipping-container-sized version of the permanent Alexandria “smash room”, will be stationed at the shopping centre. Inside, it’s chaos, destruction and catharsis; the extreme end of the stress relief scale, where zero equals “mindful meditation”, and 10 equals “I have a baseball bat, glass bottles and three minutes”.
The pop-up smash room is part of Rhode Waterside’s Festival of You, a celebration of wellbeing, happiness and “everything that makes you feel good”.

“Whether you’re looking for a little fun or a major stress-relief session, the Smash Box has the exact ingredients you need. It’s great to have a place in a controlled environment to just let off some steam, blast your favourite tunes and smash some bottles with a baseball bat. We’re excited to bring what we’ve got to Rhodes Waterside,” Johnny Li, co-founder of Smash Brothers told Broadsheet.
Punters are provided with a sixpack of bottles to destroy, on the house. After that, $5 will buy you another half-dozen glass vessels. If you prefer your stress relief vicariously, the Smash Box has a viewing window, too.
Smash Box is happening from Monday October 8 to Sunday October 21 at Rhodes Waterside (outside Lily’s and Oliver Brown). Weekdays 11am to 3pm, plus 4pm to 8pm on Thursdays; Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 4pm.
