The pint-sized June’s Shoppe has just a couple of tables and chairs, which jut out of the wall, and a small space where coffee, pastries, toast and “toppers”, or open sandwiches, are made. It’s the epitome of an order-and-go joint. The space is cheerful, with pops of bright yellow and white.

It’s by the Applejack Hospitality group (The Botanist, Della Hyde, SoCal, The Butler), and is below Bopp & Tone on the (almost car free) Wynyard Lane in the CBD.

Because there’s limited space the menu is tight. For breakfast there’s the Avo Buffalo Topper (avocado, buffalo mozzarella, a smoked tomato dressing, pepitas and basil) the Vegan Topper (tahini dressing, spiced mixed seeds, kale, fermented cabbage) and the Top of the B&E (fried egg, maple bacon, barbeque sauce). The Banana Bread Topper is spread with Nutella and served with banana, spiced strawberry sauce and salted-caramel popcorn.

For lunch there’s a pork-belly banh mi (coriander, mint, chilli, cucumber, pickled carrot and mayonnaise) and a topper with poached chicken, slaw and turmeric mayo.

Coffee is by Gabriel Coffee, which is roasted in Sydney's lower North Shore. There’s a rotating single origin for those who like theirs black, and The Easy Tiger blend for milk coffee. Kombucha, cold-pressed juices, sodas and coconut water are also available.
