Since they started Young Henrys in 2012, head brewer Richard Adamson, pub life professional Oscar McMahon and their crew have been almost unanimously known as the craft-beer option in their native Newtown.

A few blocks away from Enmore road, the Young Henrys Brewery has the modest, stripped-back charm of any company whose confidence comes from their product. From your stool at the bar you can see the stainless-steel brewing tanks lined up out the back. Feel free to ask any of the staff about what’s brewing. You’ll get a quick rundown of the process and ingredients, where that beer sits on the spectrum of standard beer types and a little story of how it came to ferment at the Young Henrys Brewery.

Young Henrys has five signature beers: Real Ale, Natural Lager, Hop Ale, Cloudy Cider and Newtowner and at least two (sometimes more) limited-release, collaboration or experimental brews.

The crew claims the stereo is one of the most important pieces of brewing equipment, and it plays a mix, including rock’n’roll (AC/DC), ambient electronica (PVT), indie and punk (Frenzal Rhomb, You Am I) and dance/punk (DZ Deathrays), all of which have been involved in collaboration brews and gigs hosted by Young Henrys.
