Urban Depot
In order to reach the clothes, accessories and homewares hidden down the back of Urban Depot, you first have to edge through a well-stocked record store (Urban Records). You may get distracted. But soldier on, because the clothing is equally persuasive.
Store buyer Michelle Wiltshire has been in retail since she was 12 years old, and her sister used to have a fashion label and several boutiques – so she knows her stuff. The Depot’s range runs from streetwear to basics, on-trend gear to party frocks.
Wiltshire holds 100 per cent Australian brands for the ladies, including Finders Keepers, The Fifth Label, Jaggar and Perth designer, Zed Alliance. Her boss buys for the men, slotting Stussy, Deus and Wrangler and Adidas onto the racks and HyperGrand watches into the cabinets.
When you’re not in the change rooms, check out the huge collection of clocks, plus copper lamps, artisan jewellery, ceramic vases, interior-design books and colourful cooking tools covering the northern wall.
