Los Angeles restaurant Maude, which is owned by one of Australia’s most celebrated chefs (and Coles ambassador) Curtis Stone, has just been awarded a Michelin Star.
Melbourne-born Stone opened Maude in 2014, running monthly tasting menus that celebrated one seasonal ingredient. It closed briefly at the end of 2017 to change its format, moving forward with quarterly menus that celebrated iconic wine-making regions around the world, such as Burgundy and Rioja. In January the menu headed to Australia, celebrating the Western Australian wine region.
Maude – named after Stone’s paternal grandmother – was his first solo restaurant. He followed it up with butcher and restaurant Gwen, which he opened with his brother Luke in 2016. Stone has appeared on television shows including My Kitchen Rules, Celebrity Apprentice and MasterChef.
The award was announced in a ceremony on Monday. Michelin has just released its inaugural California guide, covering Los Angeles restaurants for the first time since 2010. The guide awards one to three stars based on a restaurant’s entire service, including front of house. While Stone is the owner at Maude, the kitchen is helmed by executive chef Justin Hilbert.
