112 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000A new exhibition by the acclaimed Japanese illustrator, known for his hyperrealistic ink drawings and sharp social commentary, is coming to Melbourne.
Flinders Lane dining institution Chin Chin is collaborating with its neighbour, SHDW Gallery, to present a new exhibition by acclaimed Japanese illustrator Shohei Otomo.
In Reiwa, he reflects on the Heisei era, a time of rapid cultural change in Japan corresponding with the reign of Emperor Akihito from January 1989 to April 2019, and speculates on the country’s future. Otomo – who is the son of legendary artist and Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo – is known for his use of subtle symbolism and sophisticated social critique.
The exhibition of illustrations and sculptures is Chin Chin’s latest foray into the arts after a series of successful immersive dinner-slash-art events.
