A Night with the Masters: Umi at Nobu

Wed 1st May, 2019 – Thu 2nd May, 2019
Crown Riverwalk, Crown Melbourne 8 Whiteman Street Southbank
Nobu Melbourne will host a rare collaboration between two global Michelin-starred masters of Japanese cuisine.

Update (Thursday April 18): This event is now sold out.

Nobu Melbourne at Crown is hosting an exclusive dinner prepared by two of Japan’s most renowned chefs.

For two nights only, Ryujiro Nakamura and Takeru Watanabe will present a nine-course menu of Japanese and Australian produce paired with wine and sake, curated in partnership with Nobu.

Nakamura and Watanabe are both masters of modern sushi, hailing from two of Tokyo’s most famous and exclusive restaurants.

Nakamura runs the two-Michelin-starred Umi, which he inherited from late master Nagano-san, whose brilliance made Umi famous in Tokyo for 20 years.

Across town in the Ginza district, Watanabe cooks at the legendary one-Michelin-starred restaurant Sushi Arai, which seats only eight people. The venue is renowned for serving classic Nigiri-style sushi and offering some of the best tuna in Japan delivered with expertise and skill.

Both Umi and Sushi Arai are often booked out a year or more in advance. The chefs’ visit to Nobu offers Melbourne diners a rare chance to sample Michelin-starred sushi from two renowned masters.

The pair will personally prepare four of the nine courses, with some produce flown in from Japan. Nobu Melbourne will present the remaining five courses, including welcome canapés served with cocktails and dessert.

Since its early days as one of New York’s most salubrious Japanese restaurants, Nobu has become internationally synonymous with excellence in Japanese food. Nobu Melbourne’s wooden bar, muted lighting and lattices nod to Japan’s Shōji era, while the menu specialises in Japanese cuisine with Peruvian touches.
