Nickel Kitchen & Bar
Features
Classic ’70s dishes such as steak Diane, tuna tartare and chicken kiev are making a comeback. Given a modern spin and served in Nickel Kitchen & Bar’s Art Deco-inspired setting, they’ll play right into your sense of nostalgia. Or show you what you missed.
Owners Kim and TJ Peabody are no strangers to the Brisbane dining scene. When they opened here in 2016, they already had Nantucket Kitchen and Bar and NKB Express in Indooroopilly.
Nickel was inspired by TJ Peabody’s first taste of fine dining when he was young. The result is a restaurant and bar reminiscent of an early episode of Mad Men, but with a solid sense for the contemporary.
The group’s executive chef Chris Sell focuses on quality produce, meaning home-style dishes like the kiev are taken up a notch with Barossa Valley chicken, heirloom vegetables and gremolata.
There are also snacks such as prawn cutlets and pate for grazing at the nickel-topped bar. The wine list has more than 250 bottles, and there are plenty of cocktails.
That means your weekend brunch of chicken and waffles can be paired with mimosas, bellinis and carafes of Belvedere Bloody Mary.
