Jekyll & Hyde Coffee & Wine
Features
This takes the form of a cafe by day and a wine bar by night.
Owners James Anderson and Sam Fuller drew on the famed Robert Louis Stevenson story The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in creating a venue with two distinct personalities, the fusion of different influences making for a quite an experience any time of day.
In the daylight, Dr Jekyll cafe is bright and welcoming and serves Single Origin coffee and fresh seasonal breakfast and lunch dishes (just what the good doctor ordered), enjoyed in the little courtyard tucked out the back.
By night, alter ego Mr Hyde takes over. The wine and tapas bar is both decadent and inviting. The sophisticated setting incorporates rich leather seating and touches of warm timber and intimate low lighting. Mr Hyde offers a range of indulgent regional tasting boards comprising five elements from a specific region – Spanish, Italian, French or Asian.
The selection of dishes includes the Asian-influenced salmon tataki with cauliflower cream; the distinctly French chicken liver pate served with cornichons and brioche; and the Spanish chorizo pan-fried with apple cider, tomato and parsley.
In addition to the impressive wine list, Jekyll & Hyde offers an inventive cocktail menu, divided into ‘Jekyll’s Prescriptions’ and ‘Hyde’s Potions’. Anderson has previously worked at cocktail institutions such as The Loft, Hugo’s and Zeta Bar, so we can expect good things in the drinks department.
It might sound like a mishmash, but Jeckyll & Hyde’s two personalities work in unison, from morning to night.
