Set among a collection of lively Neutral Bay small bars is Firefly, a warmly lit restaurant and bar serving share plates, rustic pizza slabs and a seriously diverse assortment of pinot noir.

Dark wood Vienna cafe chairs, amber stained-glass windows and touches of sandstone create a rich, homey glow. A library of wine occupies the back wall behind the bar, each bottle adorned with handwritten parchment tasting notes, penned by owner Daniel Sofo.

Firefly is a wonderland for passionate pinot drinkers, with more than 80 labels to choose from an Otago from New Zealand’s South Island to a not-so-modest house red. A great range of other varietals are also available, sourced from both near and far.

On the menu:zucchini fries with za'atar; truffle, mushroom and mozzarella arancini; and Wagyu sliders. Larger plates for sharing include drunken chicken pancakes; haloumi and watermelon with chardonnay vinaigrette; and sous-vide hanger steak with pumpkin puree and chimichurri.
