When French artist Thomas Sauvin met Bejing native Xiao Ma, he was so impressed with Ma's extensive collection of discarded negatives that he felt compelled to bring them to new life. Almost six years later Bejing Silvermine, Sauvin's new exhibition for the 4A Center for Contemporary Asian Art, was born. The photographs recount the forgotten history of Bejing locals from 1985-2005, intimately documenting the changing population during a period of immense social change.

You can see Beijing Silvermine at the 4A Center for Contemporary Asian Art as a part of the Chinese New Year Festival 2014, from 11th January - 22nd February.
